"What RKdia Has Done For Me"

RKdia, at Knighton Corner, Horndean, is home to twelve young people aged 16-25 years who undergo a 10-point support plan that prepares them for full independent living.

Here's what one young person feels RKdia has done for her:

Hello my name is Kat. I am 20 years old and I live at Knighton Corner in Horndean. I originally heard of Knighton Corner through my friend whose cousins lived there.

At the time when I applied for accommodation I was living in Portsmouth in a shared house with complete strangers, it wasn't very nice. When I was finally accepted for accommodation, I moved into a one bedroom flat and I was very happy. It's really nice having your own space.

One of the main aspects of Knighton Corner is that it is supported accommodation. Basically the aim is to help young people build and continue to live a stable life. There is a Housing Support worker who helps and gives advice if you have any queries or problems. Since living at Knighton Corner I have become a lot more independent and there has been a recognisable change in the relationship with my family as they treat me with a lot more respect and maturity.

I have lived here for just over a year now and in that time I have compiled a CV and learnt the skills necessary to find the job I'm looking for by doing voluntary work in the office. I have also learnt how to manage my money better and pay bills.

I like the way the support workers and everybody at RKdia are friendly and I have a good relationship with them. I would recommend Knighton Corner to anyone, the support is great, and living here has definitely helped me get my life back on track. Also I think it would be a great idea if there were more places like this in the area to give support to a wider range of young people.
