Bordon Car Service For Medical Appointments

Dear Sirs,

Regarding the lack of public transport in Bordon, particularly to hospitals, I would like all residents in Bordon and Whitehill to know that there is a voluntary car service for medical appointments to all local hospitals, surgeries, dentists etc.

The Bordon & Whitehill Voluntary Car Service was set up at Oak Lodge in 1994 in conjunction with the Hampshire Voluntary Care Groups Advisory Service, who are supported by Hampshire County Council.  We now averages about 350 journeys per year.  The group has to have its own funds to keep the service running and we were very grateful to a generous donation from Radian in the past.

Clients are picked up from their own home and taken to any hospital in this area (Southampton to Guildford).  Basingstoke is our main hospital and it is virtually impossible to keep an appointment by public transport.  The drivers wait at the hospital, sometimes for several hours, and drive them home.

The service carries a modest mileage charge which for anyone on Income Support, Guarantee Pension Credit etc, will be re-imbursed at the cashiers' office on production of an appointment letter, benefit documents and a receipt from the driver.

Co-ordinators are available Monday - Friday 9am - 6pm on 01420 473636.  We can also supply details of voluntary car services in other parts of Hampshire.
