Staff at RKdia, Drum Housing Association's youth housing project, are grieving the loss of a very remarkable friend and colleague. This year was Harryson Smith's (Harry) 40th year working as a volunteer for charitable organisations across Hampshire. Harry gave his time selflessly to many of the less privileged young people in the area, including the young residents at RKdia.

RKdia Manager, Chris Adams, said, "Harry was a huge part of our lives at RKdia. He was an extraordinary man who gave so much to so many people. As a personal friend and colleague over the last ten years, I was always amazed by his unfailing belief in people, his selfless dedication, and his conviction that everyone deserved a proper chance in life. Harry was a great motivator, a wonderful listener and a rock for so many young people, some of who were going through very difficult times. We will miss him hugely and we will always be grateful for his friendship and help".
Harry, a former Deputy Headmaster, until he retired due to ill health ten years ago, had worked with RKdia since its opening in 2001. Harry individually mentored many of the young people who arrived at RKdia often helping them to come to terms with their circumstances and to build a brighter future. He helped out with many of their community evenings and the organisation and running of youth activities. Harry will be greatly missed be the many people whose lives he touched and the many friends he made at RKdia.
